GUTA President, Dr. Joseph Obeng
Tributes have been pouring in from the Business Community as well. President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, Dr. Joseph Obeng, says his death is a big blow to the trading community.
“On behalf of the trading community of Ghana, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the former president of the republic of Ghana. It saddens our heart to lose such a great leader. He was a people-centered leader who protected the vulnerable and trading community. We will always remember this great leader,” he stated.
The Ghana Union of Traders Association is the largest national trade union ever established under the regime of the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
“Since its inception in 1989 GUTA has had to work with the government at that time headed by H.E JJ Rawlings till the country went back to multi Party Democracy. Being the Head of State for the country after 1992 elections, GUTA continued to work with President Rawlings and the government of the day as always pushing the agenda of Ghanaian Traders. After leaving office, GUTA followed the exploits of the former President in his new role as a Statesman,” Dr. Joseph Obeng further revealed.
Established in 1989 and incorporated under the company Act 1963 (Act 179), GUTA is an interest and pressure group, civil society in nature, non – political and non- profit-making private sector organization. It’s aim is to bring together all Ghanaian Traders’ Associations under one umbrella to champion the course of trading and advocate for the development and growth of trading in the country and beyond.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo together with his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have both signed the book of condolence opened for the family of the late Jerry John Rawlings.
The President and his Vice signed the book this afternoon when they visited the family of the late Jerry John Rawlings to commiserate with them.
Ex-President Rawlings died yesterday, November 12, 2020, at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
In his tribute, President Akufo-Addo stated: “Your role in the establishment and development of the 4th Republic as the most enduring Republic of our history is truly exceptional. Ghanaians appreciate your leadership of our nation and will remember you accordingly. For me, I appreciate your friendship very much. Commandant, farewell and rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty.”
