Freddie Flintoff and Tom Davis have caught the attention of WWE legend Shawn Michaels, and the NXT UK boss has laid down a challenge.

The Heartbreak Kid – a Hall of Famer and major player in the company’s British brand – has caught wind after the legendary cricketer tuned into the programme last week on BT Sport, and suggested he could step up to challenge some of the roster alongside the actor..

Responding to the posts in a clip on the NXT UK account, he said: ‘Hey, Shawn Michaels here – WWE Hall of Famer – and I’m addressing his to Freddie Flintoff and Tom Davis.

‘Now, it’s my understanding that you gentlemen – and rightly so, by the way – have become huge fans of NXT UK. First of all, I wanted to tell you how much on behalf of NXT UK and all of the NXT UK superstars, we thank you very much that you appreciate our fantastic show.

‘Now, also I’ve heard that here and there that you guys may be thinking about putting your toe in the water of the NXT superstars.

‘I just wanna tell you, be careful what you ask for because between you and me, I’ve got no problem delivering on that.

‘In all seriousness, somewhere down the road, when hopefully our world gets back to a little but more normalcy, you guys can come visit us personally and see if you can really walk the walk, OK?

‘You’ve done a great job of talking the talk, and now it’s time to see the rubber meet the road.’

Murder In Successville actor Tom was buzzing at the challenge, and suggested he was more than interesting in stepping up.

He replied: ‘I’m blown away by this… Absolute legend of the game, you best believe @ShawnMichaels Big T talks like he walks… LETS GET IT ON BABY! (sic)’

The latest exchange comes after Flintoff – who was impressed with newcomer Ben Carter on NXT UK – suggested the pair could be the next big team on the scene.

In his post, he teased: ‘Watching wrestling NXTuk on @btsport reckon me and you @BigTomD could sort these lads out (sic)’

His A League of Their Own co-star seemed up for the challenge, sharing a classic gif and adding: ‘Mate I’m down with that… We’d be the dream tag team.’

Not surprisingly, the exchange caught the attention of the WWE UK team, who appeared to suggest the offer is there if the pair ever want to test themselves in the ring.

The company’s official Twitter account simply responded with an envelope emoji and wrote: ‘Open invitation’.

*NXT UK airs Thursdays on WWE Network and Fridays on BT Sport.
