Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles will be fit for the visit of West Brom to Old Trafford on Saturday evening, but Luke Shaw will not be involved.

The Red Devils have a few injury concerns after the international break, with a number of doubts before the Baggies come to town.

Solskjaer is hopeful that most problems will have been overcome in time for Saturday evening, but ruling five players out of involvement entirely – Shaw, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo.

‘The short version is it’s Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones are the only ones who didn’t join in parts of the training today,’ Solskjaer told a press conference on Friday.

‘Some are in different stages after internationals, recoveries and working back after illness and fitness and we’ll make a decision tonight but most of them have joined in today and some yesterday, so it’s looking good.

‘Possibles but some of them are probably some doubts. Marcus [Rashford] joined for the first time today, hopefully no reaction, [Eric] Bailly first day today so no, him and Marcos Rojo joined for the first time for a month, so they’re not ready, Victor [Lindelof], we’ll have to check tomorrow because his back is not great.”

Rashford has been struggling with a shoulder problem and Solskjaer has left the decision in the striker’s hands on whether to play this weekend or not.

‘He’s worked in the gym and has got treatment,’ said the Norwegian. ‘He joined in the session today and I hope he’ll hold his hand up and say he’s ready. That will be up to him. I think he feels okay.’

Telles is still waiting to make his Premier League debut for United and has been struggling with fitness and after testing positive for coronavirus.

He appears to be clear of all problems now, though, and is likely to play against West Brom.

‘All the tests from the internationals were negative, which is good,’ said Solskjaer of the conronavirus procedure.

‘Alex Telles travelled [to South America] and wanted to play [for Brazil] but then I think there was a mix-up with the tests – positive/negative and there was loads of talk about if he was going or not, first of all to the first game and then to second game. He’s come back and has been training for a few days and is looking good.’

It is not clear whether Mason Greenwood will feature or not given he has been struggling with illness of late.

‘Mason is fitter,’ Solskjaer explained. ‘He had eight or nine days away from us which is long time. He’s been training hard this week in the gym and on the grass. He’ll be back soon.’
