Real Madrid and Barcelona have expressed interest in signing Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.

Portugal international Fernandes only joined the Premier League club last January but has already developed into one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s most important players.

The 26-year-old was superb in the second-half of the 2019-20 campaign, helping Manchester United climb to third in the Premier League and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Fernandes’ form has attracted attention from Real Madrid and Barcelona and the Spanish giants will both consider launching moves, according to The Sun.

While Fernandes has impressed in Manchester, recent reports suggest the former Sporting Lisbon star is privately questioning manager Solskjaer.

Fernandes was even said to be ‘unhappy’ at the club – just eight months after arriving through the doors – although both he and Solskjaer have dismissed the reports.

Speaking at his pre-Newcastle United press conference, Solskjaer said: ‘He [Bruno] is clearly not happy with the stories but welcome to United, this is what happens.

‘They are going to try to create a division between us but it’s not going to happen.’

However, Fernandes is believed to have been ‘angry’ at being subbed off during Manchester United’s recent embarrassing defeat to Tottenham.

Responding to rumours he had a ‘bust-up’ with his team-mates at Old Trafford and manager Solskjaer, Fernandes said: ‘I’m only thankful for the manager because he was the one who wanted me and believed in me.

‘The tactics he uses are perfect for me. I believe it is a way to destabilise the group. What was said is in no way true.

‘It’s true the manager decided to take me off against Tottenham but he told me it was because the game was over and we have a lot more to go for.

‘Of course I wasn’t happy about being substituted but I understood it. I didn’t speak out or say anything that could harm the the team.

‘If anyone wants to create disharmony at Manchester United don’t use my name or my teammates or manager.

‘The mood is good and obviously we’re sad when we lose but now we have to respond in the next game.’
