Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig (Getty)

RB Leipzig’s sporting director Markus Krosche claims Liverpool is ‘not an option’ for Ibrahima Konate.

On Monday, reports claims that the Premier League champions are closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old centre-back, who has a £34 million release clause.

Konate is widely regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in the Bundesliga and Liverpool are understood to have the France Under-21 international at the top of their shortlist.

Konate is adamant that he is ignoring speculation over his future after he was asked about the link with Liverpool on Monday.

But RB Leipzig, who are already selling Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich this summer, are keen for Konate to remain at the club.

‘I can’t say anything on that topic. I think that this is not an option for Ibu,’ Krosche told Stats Perform News.

‘He has a long contract with us and he knows what we mean to him and what he means to us.

‘He was unlucky last year as he had a longer injury but this year he is in a good way and he is an extremely important player that has a lot of potential.

‘We want to help him to further develop, and we play internationally, have a very good team, so I don’t see a reason for him to leave us.’
