Owen Hargreaves has urged Manchester United to sign West Ham star Declan Rice and Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to bolster his Red Devils squad this summer, following a season in which his team will likely finish someway behind champions-elect Manchester City.

Man United have been linked with a number of central defenders over the past year and Hargreaves wants to see ‘fabulous’ Fofana head to Old Trafford.

The Frenchman has impressed for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes following his £37million move from Saint-Etienne last summer, with Leicester currently one point behind United in third.

Hargreaves also believes Rice would be a welcome addition to Solskjaer’s squad following his impressive run of performances for David Moyes’ West Ham.

Chelsea considered making an offer for Rice last summer and Manchester United were also said to be keeping tabs on his situation in east London.

Speaking on Premier League productions, French journalist Julien Laurens suggested United should sign Rice because he is ‘better than’ current midfielder Scott McTominay, and Hargreaves responded: ‘I’m with Jules.

‘I think Rice’s upside is off the charts. He has the potential to be anything and a lot better. I think he plays within himself at West Ham.

‘People don’t realise how big he is. He’s 6’3, so he looks like a centre back but he’s actually really good technically.

‘I’m not a big fan of players who just play in there and pass it around, you have to stop players too.

‘Declan Rice doesn’t have to dictate the game for Manchester United, he can pass to the players who can make the difference and be good defensively.’

Hargreaves was then asked if there was anyone else he wants to see join Manchester United this summer and replied: ‘I’d love to see Manchester United get Fofana.

‘He’s a Ferrari, honestly. I’d throw whatever they’ve got left in the bank to get him. He’s a fabulous player.’

Manchester United drew 1-1 with AC Milan in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League clash on Thursday night and return to Premier League action on Sunday against West Ham.
