Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is tipping new boy Amad Diallo to become a ‘world beater’ at Old Trafford.

The winger completed his move to the Theatre of Dreams last week after United agreed a £37million deal with Atalanta for his signature last summer.

The Ivorian has barely featured for the Serie A side this season as United wanted to ensure he would be fit and hadn’t sustained a long-term injury by the time he was due to arrive in the north-west.

However, there is significant excitement about Diallo’s potential and United are in particular need of an orthodox right winger having used the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in the position this season.

Ferdinand was already excited by the look of Diallo after watching clips of the winger but the former England captain says discussions with staff at the club have confirmed his belief that the Ivorian could become a ‘world beater’.

‘We just bought a kid in from Atalanta and hopefully he does something [to boost United’s season],’ Ferdinand told the FIVE YouTube channel.

‘If you see his clips and speak to some of the people at the club that were involved in buying him…. potentially this kid could be an absolute world beater.

‘I think that’s the thoughts of Manchester United people that they’ve unearthed…. I’m not going to give him that pressure of Cristiano Ronaldo but nobody knew about Ronaldo when we bought him really other than people in Portuga.

‘This kid seems quite similar in that sense. if you see his clips and the way people talk about him then I think the world is his oyster if he applies himself right.’

Diallo took the no.19 shirt last worn by Marcus Rashford and the winger’s expected to be given some game time with the U23s before making the step up to the first team.

United were desperate to sign Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho last summer but they turned to Diallo on deadline day after failing to land the England midfielder.

United take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday, where they can go top of the Premier League by avoiding defeat against the Clarets.
