Manchester United star Juan Mata has returned to first team training in a boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final clash against Granada.

The Spaniard has made just three appearances for the Red Devils this calendar year and was recently given time off after his mother passed away.

However, Mata was spotted back in training today and is expected to be named on the bench for United’s trip to take on La Liga side Granada.

United’s exit from the FA Cup against Leicester City means the Europa League is the club’s only chance of silverware this term.

The Red Devils are the favourites to win the tournament for a second time, following their win under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

Scott McTominay is expected to start in Spain having been rested for the win against Brighton, while Daniel James could start in place of Edinson Cavani.

Solskjaer has a decision to make in goal as Dean Henderson has been favoured since David De Gea was given permission to attend his child’s birth in Spain.
