Man Utd would ‘sell their souls’ to have a front three like Spurs’, says Souness

Graeme Souness claims Manchester United would ‘sell their souls’ to have a front three as effective as Tottenham’s.

Gareth Bale completed a dramatic switch back to former club Spurs this summer on a season-long loan after seven years at the Bernabeu.

Despite winning four Champions League finals, relations between the Welshman and the club began to sour, and now, the 31-year-old will form part of a devastating attacking trio with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

United added veteran striker Edinson Cavani to their ranks this summer, but missed out on top transfer target Jadon Sancho.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s front three of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford scored a combined 56 goals last season, Liverpool legend Souness believes the Red Devils would do anything to attain a strikeforce like Spurs’, who he feels will fire the Lilywhites back into the top four.

‘After several consecutive seasons of top-four finishes, expectations will have been toned down a little following last season’s sixth-place finish,’ Souness told the Times.

‘With Bale on board, though, I believe that Spurs can catapult themselves back to a Champions League spot.

‘I’m not saying they will be title contenders but they can take points off the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

‘The reason for that is not down to Bale alone but because of the combined potency of their front three.

‘Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min — this is an attack that deserves to be bracketed alongside Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, as well as whoever Barcelona or Real Madrid put out in those forward positions.

‘Manchester United would sell their souls to have such an effective strikeforce.’
