Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw are major doubts for Manchester United’s clash with Burnley but believes the trio should ‘definitely’ be fit to take on Liverpool next weekend.

All three players were absent as a much-changed United side booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup thanks to Scott McTominay’s early header at home to Watford on Saturday.

The nature and severity of the injuries remains unclear but Solskjaer will keep close tabs on their fitness on Monday before making a decision over whether to take them to Turf Moor.

Asked whether the trio would be fit for United’s upcoming league games, Solskjaer replied: ‘I hope so. I hope all of them for Liverpool, definitely.

‘I’m not sure if they’ll make the Burnley one.

‘It’s light training and then we’ll have to see on Monday.’

Central defender Eric Bailly will also be monitored ahead of Tuesday night’s clash after a collision with team-mate Dean Henderson during United’s win over Watford.

However, the Ivorian insisted his suspected neck injury was merely a ‘knock’ as he reacted to the victory on Twitter.

‘Good job by the team to advance in the FA Cup. I am OK, it was just a knock,’ he said.

Wins over Burnley and Liverpool would put United six points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table but Solskjaer brushed off title talk ahead Sunday’s much-anticipated match.

The Norwegian said: ‘We’re not even halfway through the season yet and every game in the Premier League is a challenge, it’s a test.

‘Every game is a different test. Watford gave us a test. Burnley is a test, Liverpool is another, then you go to Fulham which is a different test again.

‘No-one will remember how the league table looked like on 12 January 2021.’

‘We have good momentum. We started well again after the disappointment against City, bounced back really well with a win and of course we want to build momentum again.

‘If we can get a win on Tuesday then when you win two games on the bounce again you can go into the next game confident. Every game in the Premier League is a chance to build some more confidence.

‘I think it’s great that our fans are excited and they’re happy with where we are at and that we have this little sense of excitement. But then we’re not even halfway through the season, so of course every game against Burnley or every game against Liverpool matters a lot anyway.

‘For me, all my eyes are on Tuesday and then let’s see where we’re at after that one.’
