Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping to have a number of players available to him again for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leicester as a string of stars return to fitness.

The Reds have been going through something of an injury crisis and a few first team players remain out for the Foxes’ visit to Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are sidelined for a number of months with serious knee injuries, while Klopp confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson will definitely not be available for the weekend.

However, there was more positive news about other players who have been struggling and the German says we could see Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhys Williams on Sunday.

‘We will see,’ Klopp told a press conference on Friday. ‘Hendo not, Trent not, that’s clear. All the rest [Fabinho, Thiago and Rhys Williams] we will see.

‘Yeah [they are] in a good way, Ox in a good way, they’re all closer, but we will see if it’s close enough for the weekend.’

Both Van Dijk and Gomez are on the early stages of a long road back to fitness, with Gomez suffering serious damage to a tendon in his knee during the international break.

The centre-back is at home with his family as he recover from surgery, but Klopp says things are going as well as could be expected.

‘Tough one, but the surgery was successful so he’s now recovering from the surgery and starting the rehabilitation,’ said the Reds boss.

‘But he’s with his family so he’s in the best possible place, I would say.

‘That’s it pretty much, rehab has started now and we help as much as we can. It’s all good, or as good as possible.’

Klopp is expected to be without Mohamed Salah for the match this weekend after the Egyptian tested positive for coronavirus during the international break.

He has had multiple tests and one as recently as Thursday before he flies back to the UK on Friday, when he would be expected to go through 10 days of isolation.

However, the German refused to fully rule out his star striker from the Leicester clash: ‘He is flying back today. I’ve been in close contact with him. When you have a negative test, the process starts. He has had no symptoms. Nothing to say in public about the situation.’

There had also been concerns about a hamstring problem for Andy Robertson, but the Scotland captain is expected to play on Sunday.
