Joe Cole makes prediction for Liverpool vs Leicester City

Joe Cole is backing Leicester City to take full advantage of Liverpool’s injury problems in defence and beat Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds have been hit with an injury crisis in their backline having lost Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and stand-in centre-back Fabinho in recent weeks.

Young right-back Neco Williams is another doubt after he picked up a knock in Wales’ Nations League win over the Republic of Ireland last weekend.

Klopp will also be without Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian tested positive again for coronavirus, but the Reds are hoping Fabinho and Jordan Henderson will be fit for the Leicester clash.

The Foxes go into Sunday’s game in good form, sitting at the top of the table after winning six of their opening eight games this season.

And former Liverpool and Chelsea winger Cole believes that if Brendan Rodgers instructs his side to put sufficient pressure on the Reds’ makeshift backline with a high-octane display, they will come away with a victory.

‘It’s so important the first 20 minutes of the game, you’ve got to put the Liverpool back four under pressure, you’ve got to make them nervous and panicky,’ Cole said on Coral and JOE Media’s All to Play For podcast.

‘If I was Brendan, whatever system he decides to play, I’d be working on getting in behind, there has to be penetration. You put doubt in their minds.

‘Liverpool will be sitting there thinking how’s this going to go with this new back four without Van Dijk, Gomez.

‘Leicester and every other team playing against Liverpool early on, you have to put them under pressure.

‘For Leicester it’s about applying the pressure early as a team, taking a few more risks and pressing high.

‘If they can do that Leicester can go and win the game. I’m going for Leicester.’
