Glen Johnson predicts one of key Liverpool trio will leave Anfield

Glen Johnson has tipped one of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino to leave Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool’s feared front three has faltered this season and while Mohamed Salah has retained his lethal touch – leading the Premier League goal scoring charts with 17 goals – Mane and Firmino have struggled to reach the heights of previous seasons.

With their frontline faltering and injuries causing havoc elsewhere in the squad, Jurgen Klopp’s side have slipped to eighth in the table and sit 25 points behind Manchester City.

Ahead of what could be a pivotal summer at the club, Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, moves that could mean big changes to Klopp’s attack.

Johnson believes Liverpool will benefit from freshening up their front three, adding one could leave to play ‘in an easier league’.

‘I don’t think Liverpool will have the same front three next season. It’s been the same front three for a long time and sometimes a team just needs a fresh face to kickstart things,’ Johnson told CheltenhamGuides.com.

‘Liverpool’s front three knows if they’re fit then they will play, and sometimes that’s not a good thing.

‘If they’re struggling or going through the motions because they know they’re going to play, it is not as good as if they are on their toes because they think somebody else is going to take their slot and that will raise their game.

‘Sometimes a fresh face is needed and they’ve done everything they can at Liverpool so maybe one or two of them will want to go away and play somewhere in an easier league.

‘I think Liverpool will want to play the same way, they won’t want to change much as they’ve got a devastating formula. They’ll look for similar personnel if they do want to replace anyone.’

Salah fuelled speculation of a switch to La Liga in December when he gave an interview with Spanish publication AS suggesting he was open to the idea of playing for either Barcelona or Real Madrid in the future.

The Egypt international, whose contract at Anfield expires in 2023, has since admitted that he is happy to stay at the Merseyside club.
