Georginio Wijnaldum has challenged Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah to hit 25 Premier League goals this season to help Liverpool clinch Champions League qualification.

Liverpool’s defence of their Premier League title is all but over with the club sat in eighth place after six home defeats on the bounce, leaving them 25 points behind Manchester City.

While the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have struggled this season, Salah has remained sharp in front of goal, scoring 17 times in the league as he chases down his third Golden Boot.

The Egyptian leads Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Tottenham striker Harry Kane both on 16 with Wijnaldum confident his teammate can boost his side’s top four hopes with another personal accolade.

‘Yes, it is (pretty amazing),’ Wijnaldum told Liverpool’s official website of Salah’s goal scoring record.

‘We hope that he can continue doing that, because that will make it easier for us to win games.

‘It’s amazing what he is doing. He is always searching for a goal, always searching to come into positions to score a goal.

‘Yeah, 25 is a good number – hopefully he can continue scoring goals.’

Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a midweek victory over RB Leipzig. Their attention now turns to Wolves, who travel to Anfield on Monday.
