Fenerbahce manager Erol Bulut says Mesut Ozil’s future will ‘become clear in the coming days’ amid reports the Arsenal midfielder is in advanced talks to join the Turkish club in the January transfer window.

Ozil has been exiled at the Emirates with the World Cup winner last appearing for the Gunners all the way back in March 2020.

The 32-year-old has previously been insistent that he will see out the remainder of his £350,000-a-week contract which is due to expire at the end of the season.

However, reports indicate that Fenerbahce are working on a deal to bring Ozil to Istanbul this month on a free transfer, rather than waiting until the summer.

When asked about the recent speculation, Bulut told beIN Sports: ‘Mesut Ozil’s situation will become clear in the coming days.

‘Mesut’s name is very common. It is not possible for me to make a comment before he comes.’

Arteta has also taken a similar stance to the Fenerbahce boss by also insisting that Ozil’s situation will be decided imminently.

‘If something is sorted this month it is because it is good for both parties, for Mesut and for the club,’ the Spanish boss said on Thursday.

‘If that is the case we will move forward, if it is not the case then he will continue here. We will decide what is happening in the next few days.’

The Gunners also announced 19-year-old defender Omar Rekik as their first signing of the January window on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Sead Kolasinac and William Saliba have left the club on short-term loan deals until the end of the season.
