Daniel James drops hint over his Manchester United future

Manchester United winger Daniel James insists he’s happy to bide his time at Old Trafford and is still ‘loving’ being at the club, despite seeing a big reduction in his playing time.

The Welshman joined the Red Devils in a £15million deal from Swansea City in 2019 and he hit the ground running with three goals in his first four appearances for the club.

James’ good form continued for much of 2019 but his scoring exploits collapsed and he managed just one further goal in his next 42 appearances.

The Wales international has managed just two starts so far this term and he’s been linked with a January exit from Old Trafford, particularly as Atalanta winger Amad Diallo is expected to provide greater competition down the right.

James gave Solskjaer a timely reminder of his quality with a superb goal for Wales in a 2-0 win against Finland this week and the winger wouldn’t be short of suitors should he decide to leave the Theatre of Dreams.

However, the Welshman insists he’s ‘sticking in there’ at United and says he will fight for his place.

Asked if international duty gave him a ‘release’ from his difficulties at club level, James denied the claims.

‘I wouldn’t say it’s a release,’ said James.

‘Man United is my club and I love it there. Whether I am playing or not, I’m proud, as proud as I am to play for Wales.

‘There are obviously times where I played a lot last season; I may not have played as much this season, but I am sticking in there and always in and around it.

‘I feel really good at the moment. When I do play, I give my all. I bought into everything we wanted to do and thankfully I got that goal and assist.’

James will be hoping to feature as United entertain West Brom at home on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received good news on Thursday as Alex Telles was able to train with his team-mates.

The Brazilian tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty with Brazil, having tested negative just a week earlier after a mandatory fortnight in isolation following a positive result in October.

Telles has been cleared to train after the test found remaining signs of infection from a previous result, meaning he is fine to play on Saturday.
