Conor McGregor will complete a superb triple-header of UFC events in January, when he fights Dustin Poirier on Fight Island at UFC 257.

Dana White has confirmed that there will be three events from 16-23 January with McGregor vs Poirier headlining the final one.

Max Holloway will be taking on Calvin Kattar on 16 January, with Leon Edwards finally fighting Khamzat Chimaev on Wednesday 20 January, with all the contests taking place on Fight Island.

Of course, there will be plenty of other fights staged across the three cards as well, with some intriguing bouts already set for UFC 257.

Joanne Calderwood meets Jessica Eye, Shane Burgos fights Hakeen Dawodu and Khalil Rountree faces Marcin Prachnio on the undercard to McGregor and Poirier’s rematch.

Few bouts on the first two cards are confirmed as yet, but there looks set to be a cracking fight at welterweight on 16 January between the returning Santiago Ponzinibbio and Li Jingliang on Yas Island.

McGregor will be hoping to improve on the number of pay-per-view buys he managed in his one bout this year, which set the record for 2020.

The Notorious tweeted: ‘I am honored to secure their highest PPV of the year with McGregor vs. Cerrone,’ alongside a document that showed 1.35m buys.

He added: ‘100% offence. 100% defence. Highest PPV. Highest gate. Fastest Main Event KO of the year. 2020. 40 seconds. Roll on 2021!’

Justin Gaethje, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s latest victim, is backing McGregor to return to the Octagon in winning fashion.

‘This is two really high-level fighters. Conor’s really good. I do see him probably winning,’ Gaethje told Helen Yee.

‘I don’t know. It’ll be interesting to see if Dustin rises to the occasion.’
