Chris Sutton changes top four prediction after West Brom thrash Chelsea

Chris Sutton fears Chelsea can no longer be considered certainties to finish in the top four after Saturday’s astonshing 5-2 defeat against West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start to his managerial reign in west London went up in smoke against the relegation threatened Baggies who romped to a victory which enhanced their slim survival hopes.

The former PSG boss made a number of changes to his starting XI following the international break, but those alterations appeared likely to be vindicated when Christian Pulisic put the Blues ahead.

Thiago Silva’s dismissal soon after, however, triggered an astonishing capitulation which ultimately led to Chelsea’s heaviest home defeat in the Premier League since October 2011.

Sutton believes Tuchel was guilty of taking Sam Allardyce’s team too lightly and based his team selection on the forthcoming Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Porto.

He told BT Sport:  ‘I think Thomas Tuchel was guilty of taking West Brom too lightly. The likes of Christensen and Rudiger were on the bench, players who have played very well under him.

‘We know they have a strong squad but was he looking forward to the game in midweek in the Champions League? I think so.

‘Credit to West Brom though. they really took the game to Chelsea. They’ve been so watertight under Thomas Tuchel but they just fell to pieces and it’s a worry.

‘I actually thought the run they were on they were a certainty for the top four but not anymore. Who could’ve predicted that result today?

‘It’s a worry for Chelsea now and if you’re Spurs, West Ham or Liverpool that result gives you great hope.’
