Napoli are planning an audacious bid for Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney, after missing out on the Scottish star when he left Celtic in 2019.

The Serie A side were battling with Arsenal to sign the left-back in the summer of 2019, but the Gunners won the race and secured his signature for a fee of around £25m.

The 23-year-old has suffered a few injuries since arriving at the Emirates, but when he has been fit and playing regularly, Tierney has been one of the best players in the Arsenal side over the last 18 months.

The Scot has racked up 46 appearances for the Gunners, scoring two goals and lifting the FA Cup and Community Shield under Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard would have no intention of letting Tierney leave, but Napoli are planning to test the waters and try to tempt the Scot to Italy with a bid in the summer, reports the Telegraph.

Napoli would prefer to sign Tierney in January, but they consider a move this month as unlikely so will look to plug the gap with a loan move for Chelsea outcast Emerson Palmieri, who is rarely in Frank Lampard’s first team plans these days.

That move appears to be easily made, but the bid for Tierney is much less likely to come to fruition for Gennaro Gattuso’s side, who currently sit sixth in Serie A.

Arsenal have Tierney under contract until 2024 and see him as a long-term fixture in the first team having been so impressive at left-back since arriving at the club.

Along with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith-Rowe and Joe Willock, Tierney is seen as leading the club back towards former glories with a string of exciting young talents.

Napoli would have to produce a bid well in excess of the £25m Arsenal paid for Tierney for them to even consider letting him leave.
