Arsenal injury news: Mikel Arteta concerned about Bukayo Saka after ‘pretty bad’ challenge in Leeds draw

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta sounded pessimistic about an injury to Bukayo Saka after the midfielder limped out of his side’s 0-0 draw against Leeds United.

The 18-year-old was introduced on the hour-mark at Elland Road following Nicolas Pepe’s sending off.

The England international squandered a great opportunity to snatch all three points for Arteta’s side but his creativity and movement gave the 10-man Gunners a new lease of life.

Saka was then repleaced in injury time after a nasty challenge from Stuart Dallas left him limping off the field.

With Pepe out for three matches and the games coming thick and fast for Arsenal, the Gunners can ill-afford to be without one of their most creative players.

But Arteta could do little to allay fears over a period on the sidelines for Saka when he was asked about the midfielder in his post-match press conference.

‘We’ll have to assess how bad it is but it looks a pretty bad challenge and he was in pain,’ said Arteta.

Saka featured in all three of England’s internationals over the fortnight break from the Premier League and Arteta was clearly unwilling to risk the midfielder from the start at Elland Road.

Arsenal were well below their best even with 11 men in Yorkshire and they were lucky to leave with a point.

Pepe’s sending off meant his team-mates had to defend for 40 minutes with ten men and Arteta admitted he was pleased with the spirit and mentality his side showed towards the end.
